The homeowners of this Renton property approached Grand Building Construction with a clear vision: transform their outdated master bathroom into a luxurious, spa-like sanctuary. The original layout featured a large, unused corner tub and a cramped, dark-framed standing shower stall. This configuration left the bathroom feeling closed-off, cluttered, and highly inefficient for their daily needs. They wanted to eliminate the tub entirely and use the reclaimed space to build an expansive, modern walk-in shower with premium finishes.
Our design-build team worked closely with the homeowners to reimagine the space. By removing the corner tub, we were able to double the size of the shower enclosure, allowing for the addition of a custom built-in tiled bench, a spacious recessed shampoo niche, and a high-end dual shower head system. Our Process
Step 1: Design & Layout Planning
We collaborated with the homeowners to design the new layout. Our primary focus was to ensure the new, expanded walk-in shower would fit perfectly into the space left by the corner tub while maintaining a natural flow and open feel in the bathroom.
Step 2: Demolition & Tub Removal
Our crew carefully demolished and hauled away the old corner tub, tile surround, and standing shower stall. We capped and sealed the tub’s plumbing lines, re-routed the shower drains, and prepared the subfloor and walls for the new, expanded shower enclosure.
Step 3: Framing & Advanced Waterproofing
We framed the new, enlarged shower walls and the custom shower bench. Since waterproofing is the most critical step of any bathroom remodel, we applied a multi-layer Schluter-Kerdi waterproof membrane system across the entire shower enclosure, bench, and niche to ensure a 100% watertight seal.
Step 4: Custom Tile & Fixture Installation
Our expert tile installers laid the large-format marble-veined porcelain tile floor-to-ceiling, along with the black-and-white marble floor tile and the decorative border. We then installed the matte black dual-head shower system, upgraded the vanity faucets, and hung the illuminated LED mirrors.
Step 5: Glass Enclosure & Final Walkthrough
We installed the custom frameless glass shower enclosure and completed a final walkthrough with the homeowners. The project was completed on schedule in 7 days, leaving the homeowners with a gorgeous, modern master bathroom they will enjoy for years to come.
